Joe Presents: Random Thoughts on the Games I Reviewed This Year
December 31, 2015

Road Not Taken (PC)
"I think there's a reason this road isn't taken." (the reason is repetition)

Gothic (PC)
"I hate this game! I love this game. I'm mildly irritated by this game. But I enjoy it. No wait, I'm apathetic to it.

Gamera: Daikaiju Kuchuu Kessen (Game Boy)
"This is why not every genre should have a turn-based oounterpart."

Aquattack (Colecovision)
"Not sure if I suck or this game is just very hard to control. No wait, this game sucks!"

Bermuda Triangle (Atari 2600) image

Bermuda Triangle (Atari 2600)
"Well whaddya know... A game for 2600 that I haven't played that actually rocks. And it's a shmup, no less!"

1942 (NES)

Gaming Progress: Another One Down
December 28, 2015

Now that we're back up and running, I'd like to post some of my progress. It's brief, thankfully...

Sliced my way through everything the game had to offer in just under three hours. Well, on normal mode anyway. I don't plan to go back through the game any time soon, but I hope to eventually pick up Shank 2 and play through that at some point.

Gaming Progress: Short and Sweet
December 19, 2015

Over the last few days, I've been trying to race through a few titles so I can get some reviews out for them. So far I've managed to plow through one and partway through another.

Greed: Black Border (PC)
Beaten. I somehow trudged through its drawn out, tedious levels and defeated the final boss. So that's another one crossed off the backlog...

Shank (PC)
Started and immediately got into this brawler. It's pretty simple, as brawlers go, but it's also a lot of fun. Killing enemies with an undying chainsaw is pretty awesome. The last thing I did was kill some pot-bellied masochist named Denny.

Child of Light (PS4)

Gaming Progress: No Focus
December 12, 2015

This is long overdue, mostly because I've been trying to get into another game since finishing Risen 2, and I've had a difficult time calling one my focal project. I'm not sure if it's that I'm playing 'meh' games or just that I lack focus at the moment. During the last couple of weeks, I tried out a handful of titles on Steam to see if any of them would stick. I've selected a couple to mainly focus on (indicated with *), with the others popping up from time to time.

Risen 3: Titan Lords*

Death to RPGs Backlog Clearing Project *UPDATED*
December 07, 2015

As some of you might remember, I hatched a scheme to knock some of the W-RPGs (and some Japanese games that mimic them) off of my backlog: Risen, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Geneforge, Gothic, and some From Software games--not to mention some of the DLC. I succeeded in taking a few of them out, but I still have a long way to go. Hopefully, in the coming year I can get my act together and even take out an entire category. As of right now, my remaining targets are:

Dragon Age
Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age 2
Dragon Age: Inquisition

Mass Effect
Mass Effect (I still plan to replay this one so I can re-review it here and delete my junky GameFAQs review of it)
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3

Geneforge Sagaorge 3orge 4: Rebellion

Well, I tried to play Vigil: Blood Bitterness...
December 04, 2015

Ages ago, I bought the game Vigil: Blood Bitterness via Steam, under the impression it was an RPG. This was thanks to Steam's old category system, where they considered point-and-click adventure games to be roleplaying. Honestly, I don't mind a good p&c now and then, so I thought I'd maintain this one in my backlog until the time was ripe to play it.

The only problem is I never got the chance...

Gaming Progress: Risen 2 has sunk
November 29, 2015

Progress has happened. And it was glorious!

Risen 2: Dark Waters (PC)
While at Maracai Bay, I discovered a "major" plot twist. One interesting thing about this segment is that you can fight the area boss early if you uncover his true identity. I did so and took the more challenging route of battling him before the actual shebang, which was frustrating. I had to do a lot of kiting and picking off his cronies with my musket, but eventually I did take them and their leader out.
