About Me: I knew at an early age that I wanted to make a career out of writing about games, and now I have. You'll find most of my stuff right here on HonestGamers, of course, but don't be surprised if my name pops up elsewhere. Living out my dream keeps me very busy, and I wouldn't have it any other way! |
Apart from posting a new banner once we have a suitable replacement, it's looking like most of the tweaking for the site's new design is done.
This has really taken a lot out of me, but I'm really happy with the new look.
To celebrate, today I added a feature some of you should like:
Anyone who has 100,000 HG Points no longer will see any of the banners while logged into that account. It also removes the Google links near the bottom center of the site. It's my way of rewarding the most active users, and it applies equally to staff and regular users. Also, the ads won't appear even if you spend your HG Points, so there's no penalty for taking part in the prize drawings that take place from time to time.
As a result of a discussion I had with usurper, I've added some fairly significant tweaks to the site. There are a number of changes throughout a lot of the back end. Specifically, the range of HG Points available for submissions has been made narrower. The submission approval process is also a little bit simpler. Users now receive HG Points when posting on the forums and in their blogs, too. Oh, and I've added some more 'mood' options to the blog. In fact, I nearly doubled the number available. All in all, I've accomplished a lot tonight...
Some of you may know that I regularly write fiction. At one time, I wrote a lot more of it than I do now. Somewhere during that time, I joined a writer's group and we all sent critiques back and forth. There were around 8 of us. Most of us have since been published and now have major book deals.
I don't, and neither does Steve. At least in his case, that's a tragedy that shows how unfair life is. He's submitted to a few agents and no one seems ready to publish his book, so he's giving it away for free on the Internet.
I'm starting to realize that there could definitely be a few more mood options when you're posting to your blog. Do you ever find yourself thinking that you'd like one special option that's missing? Depressed? Obnoxious? Sad? Ghetto? I'd like to hear what terms you most miss when it comes time to post to your blog, and maybe I'll add in some of them in a future update. Oh, yeah!
There's apparently an editorial on some site that suggests that Guitar Hero II is illegal because it advertises all kinds of music on the back of its box, yet the music is not immediately available. Here's the Joystiq response:

Nelly Furtado swept the Candian equivalent of the Grammy awards by winning the prize in every category in which she was nominated (and you thought I meant with a broom), according to an article on MP3.com. Isn't that exciting?
EmP may have done it first, and he never talked to me before posting a list of his reviews in March with descriptions, but I think we all know he copied my idea... even though I didn't have it until I saw him do it. Here goes!
