About Me: Hello. |
It's such a quirky game, very much in line with the source material it's clearly based on, but the actual play mechanics is bugging the crap out of me. I'm not going into detail about it, since I might do a review, but, this game does some things right, but it also does a bunch of things wrong. I could actually do a review of it now, because I have a feeling things won't change dramatically over the course of the game's story, but I actually want to complete the whole thing before making any final judgement. Shame, too, because this could have been a great steal at $20.
Here's a very early cutscene from the game, right as Agent York arrives in town:
Konami Classics Vol. 1
Konami Classics Vol. 2
I'm still trying to figure out if this was a train wreck or a success. My original intention was to only write a review for Vol. 1, but thanks to a goof, I realized I somehow wrote a review describing both Volumes. I noticed this the second I finished writing it, too. Sucks, because I thought the original review came out pretty well.
Something that I've noticed during the past 8 or so months on the Internet is this growing hatred for video game reviews. It's always been there, yeah, but I've noticed an unusual increase recently. On different sites, different message boards, and even chat rooms, whenever someone brings up a review for a game, the response is almost the same: "reviews are useless, play the game yourself and decide". It's really getting on my nerves at this point because of how stupid that statement is. People rely on reviews so that they won't waste time and money on something they might not enjoy. It really makes me think that these are either kids that have their parents buy them games or extremely rich people.
Um...
Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation
If this was only a single-player game that had a bit more missions and fine-tuning, I would have given it an 8. But it wasn't.
Console Series Overview Time!
From Best to "Worst":
-Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War
They went to town on this game, delivering varied play mechanics and missions, a well-executed plot, and great soundtrack. It set the standard for following AC titles to live up to or overcome. It has yet to happen.
-Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies
Well, maybe I got moderated once before, but if I did, it probably happened five or so years ago. Long enough to forget.
Anyway, this happened on the Metal Slug XX board where people were exposing a glitch that made the full game free. The first time this happened, I marked it and the topic got the deleted. The second time was when someone mentioned the glitch, and when posters asked to share it, I threatened to mark it if it was revealed. I got marked for trolling.

Edit: I just realized that I like to moan a lot in my blog entries...
