I retire... lol
April 03, 2008

I've probably been technically retired for years now, since I haven't written a single review since about 2005. But in that time I've thought of writing reviews, but nothing has ever come from it. Time to stop trying to force something to happen that simply isn't. Gotta stop thinking about reviews. I might start enjoying video games a bit more. Well, not that I have much time to play video games. This week, total, I've spent about an hour and a half on a game.

P.S. no i'm not judging your tournies.

Lost Odyssey
February 08, 2008

Lost Odyssey is a great game so far. The battle system is simple and if you go into the game expecting a great, innovative battle system, you'll be disappointed. I think it just means the game focuses more on the story, the characters, the world... hell, the random encounters aren't that frequent, anyway.

The world feels a lot like Final Fantasy VI and XII, and it has a lot of that political intrigue XII was trying to do, but seems to be doing it better. And the main character is one of the better ones lately. He's strong, closed off and all, but you get exactly why he is that way.

The graphics are beautiful and the soundtrack is amazing. I'm loving this.

Dead Rising
January 28, 2008

I really need a bigger TV to play this properly. The text is way too small. But anyway, I'm getting by. I really like the setting of the game, and the way that almost anything is a weapon. I wish melee weapons didn't break so quickly, 'cause when you're in the middle of a zombie hoard, using a severed limb as a last resort attack isn't so effective.

I think I need to level up a bit more. My character's a level 8. I do like how you can restart the game with the same stats. I've done it a couple of times so far.

In other news, Metroid Prime and I are currently not on speaking terms after a giant plant boss caused me to have a game over, and silly me had forgotten to save... so I lost a fair chunk of progress. Fux.

Metroid Prime
January 21, 2008

I never bothered with this game when it was new. First person games aren't really my thing. But after seeing Metroid Prime 3 in action recently, it looked like a cool game. I don't have a Wii yet, so I decided I'd start at the beginning, if I ever found the game for a good price. $15 AUD at EB Games (for a comparison, new release games are $100, greatest hits are $50).

I played the opening stage, learning the moves and stuff as I went. Yeah, I didn't expect too much from the game's intro. I did enjoy the immersive atmosphere of the game, though. Then... then there was a boss fight. That kicked up the tension a fair bit, circling around and shooting the bastard in the mouth.

Halo 3 isn't that fun. Neither was Halo. Last FPS I really got into was Perfect Dark. That was a long time ago, now.

Games I played this year
December 29, 2007

It's the closest I'm likely to get to reviewing, and maybe it'll even fire off a spark of motivation.

List is in roughly chronological order.

Disgaea 2

I enjoyed it despite it not being as good as the first game, story-wise. But the actual grind of the game became very obvious to me when I played one level over and over (exploiting an enemy level up 10% tile) to level up my party. I spent so many hours on this and managed to breeze through the rest of the game, and it wasn't that fun. I did all that stuff too early on. I should've saved the power-levelling for all the bonus stuff.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC)
