Black ice is evil...
December 04, 2008

You can't see it unless you're endowed with eagle-eye vision or something, and if you have bad vision as it there's no chance of that. So on your way to breakfast, you conspicuously fall on that ice, bruising your hip/thigh and pulling the muscle. In the middle of the street, in front of a couple of strangers who were gracious enough to ask how you are, though you stil feel embarrassed.

That you're paranoid about injuring yourself in some severe way - ice is great for making joints like knees bend the wrong way - doesn't help any. Neither does the fact that you're also deathly afraid of getting run over as you endure and pick yourself up from he misfortune, amplified by the ironic fact that even though the street is rarely used, there's almost always a car coming right as you're crossing. So when all is said and done, you're significantly rattled, scared, upset, and slightly angry, emotions that carry with you the entire day.

And as a result, you get super-offended beyond normal reason when your friends kid around about you. And then you wonder why you let such a silly thing as slipping on the ice effectively ruin what could have been an otherwise perfectly fine day.

Makes sense. The winter weather always put me in a bad mood around here, because not only do you have to watch where you step... but how you drive (and how the other cars are driving, because there's always some idiot who doesn't even stop to think about the possibility of black ice or packed snow that has turned into ice).

So I moved down to Newport, and here we hardly even see snow... or ice, or even freezing weather. It rains a lot, but I still prefer that to black ice.

Black ice kicked my ass last week.

I was walking to uni, slipped and landed flat on my back. In the middle of the street!!

That sounds like what happened to me! Only I fell on my side, sort of... and I notice now that my arm's a lot sorer than anything else; must've "caught" myself funny or something.

It's the street thing that really gets me... Like... I'd've been fine if it happened on the sidewalk.

And thanks, Jason. That makes me feel better. Glad I'm not the only one this thing bothers immensely.

Fell on my back... in the middle of the street.
My back... in the middle of the street.
My back...

Sorry, that song's been stuck in my head

Winter weather is horrible. It should be banned.

Over here we can't cope with it, either. For some reason an inch of snow makes the whole country come to a standstill.

Haha. I vote we all get winter houses in Spain or somewhere where it's warm all year so we don't have to put up with it anymore.

I would like to say I'm one of those eagle eye vision people, but the truth is that I always walk everywhere as though there's ice on the ground. It's part of my ninja training. Sometimes I jog along the ground, then break into a full-on slide (stopping myself by kneeling and putting my hand to the ground). I'd like to say it makes me look super agile, but people say I just look like a lucky idiot.

They're probably right, but it doesn't stop me from feeling good about myself for the rest of the day. So yeah, I can imagine that slipping would ruin my day too. It's amazing how 30 seconds can spoil 16 hours.

I thought you were talking about the new ACDC album...
wolfqueen001 wolfqueen001 - December 08, 2008 (09:39 AM)
Zig should film himself one day.

ACDC has a new album? And they called it Black Ice?

Aren't they old? >_>

*Grumble* Yes, they are old and badarse.

Yes. THey are awesome, but I'm always skeptical of older bands coming out with new stuff... but... then again, Iron Maiden, Rush, and Ozzy seem to have done it just fine.
