Hey, I have three guest passes for this in case anyone wants one.

I am so sadly out of touch when it comes to this spectacularly relevant and important game that I don't even know what good a guest pass would do me.

I, too, am out of touch with this monumental event. And too broke to pick it up after Max Payne 3. However, I believe the guest pass is good for a demo of the game and some amount of online time... that's how it worked with Starcraft 2.

I'm not too interested in Diablo but I will say this for Blizzard... they put together some DAMN nice trailers.

I thought the TV spots were the best, but I'm really not a fan of the game's dialogue so far. Much like SC2 it's becoming very hollywood and rather corny.

Anyways, putting the coffee on now -- no sleep until I get to Inferno.

Of course those pesky Koreans have already downed Diablo.

So basically just an extended demo. But hey, playing a StarCraft II guest pass was what ultimately got me to buy the full thing.

And Holdthephone, how are you able to play the game when the servers aren't up?

Servers are packed... wheeeeeee.

Not surprising in the least, but infuriating for the simple reason that you still need to be logged in even if you're only doing single-player.

The same thing happened with Starcraft II. We were all happy it came out and then we just... sort've... played it and moved on. It's just hard to make the same impact on the gaming world these days. Things move more quickly. It's harder to really stick. That's not an excuse for Blizzard's sake, more an observation.

I actually never bought SC2 because the beta was a huge turn off. D3 is a good time so far though, took 8 hours to down diablo.

Diablo III is exactly what I expected it to be. Nothing more, nothing less. People don't like it because they enjoy being disappointed in things.

Personally, I don't like it because all the spawns and drops are handled server-side in a single-player game.

Which granted wouldn't be a problem if my ISP were a little more reliable, but here I am.

I had server issues last night that included some unbearable lag, which is to say that certain actions, dialog and cutscenes wouldn't trigger until looooooong after they were supposed to. The problem was fixed as soon as I signed off and then signed on again, but it was worrying.

This is my first personal encounter with "always on" DRM. I do not like it. But the game itself is pretty fun.

Hopefully it'll get resolved in the coming weeks as Blizz brings their servers up to par.

Diablo III's servers are down for the next two hours while they sort things out.

Man, reviewing this game is going to be so difficult. I like it when I'm actually playing it and everything's in working order. On the other hand, you're completely at the mercy of Blizzard's competence, or lack of. It's a good game, but it's also an unstable product.

To be fair, most games have server issues on release month. It doesn't make it any less annoying. Max Payne 3, in related news, is incredibly addictive and I'm shocked to find is the first release day game I've played in a long time with no server issues. Granted, it doesn't have 3 million users like Diablo III, but shit... even Twisted Metal (with a very limited player base) had huge release day issues with multiplayer.

I get that, but the issue extends to the single-player game since you have to be logged in no matter what.

Game seems pretty cool, and I was a big fan of the second game back in the day. The only problem is the servers not yet being able to handle the large amount of players. My average connection is around 300-350ms which can at times be borderline unplayable.

I'm playing a demon hunter since the Assassin and Amazon were my favorite classes in the second game. Think I'll give the monk a try next.

the multiplayer is so fun that i don't think id know what to do offline anyways
