People who have been walking around saying "The Elder Scrolls 6" every time they want to talk about the next game in the series after The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim got a sweet treat today, when Bethesda announced the official name of the next installment. You can call it The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel now, or probably just Sentinel for short.
Released in 2011, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (known affectionately and effectively as just Skyrim) has been a huge hit for Bethesda. In fact, it remains Bethesda Game Studios' most played game, according to a press release the company issued today to announce the new title.
Because it is feeling festive, Bethesda announced a free, limited-time Golden Pursuit campaign called Alik'r Awaits to The Elder Scrolls Online. There will be rewards for new and existing players from now through November 3, 2026.
Bethesda is also celebrating its 40th anniversary, starting with the likes of Gridiron (in 1986) and Wayne Gretzky Hockey (1988) before moving to the sort of stuff that made it famous. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in 2002 was a huge deal for the company, followed by its interpretation of Interplay's classic Fallout series with Fallout 3 in 2007.
Check out the above embedded video to watch Todd Howard's message for everyone on this grand occasion, and then get used to saying "Sentinel" a lot. It's probably going to be on everyone's minds for a bit, at least until Grand Theft Auto VI arrives and GTA fever properly takes hold.
