Tama In-Between arrives on Steam with one very slimy cat

Aborb, split, and possess

Key art features a cat-like blob of goo, sitting beneath the game's logo.

Tama In-Between is available to buy today on Steam for $7.99 USD, along with a soundtrack you can acquire for half the price of the game. The two items are available together as a bundle, if you're interested, or you can purchase them separately.

Coming from indie publisher Fruitbat Factory, which focuses on bringing interesting games from Japan to wider audiences, Tama In-Between is an action-platformer starring a green blob that can Absorb, Split, and Possess to solve puzzles and triumph over foes.

Tama In-Between was developed by the three-person team at Masagomi Studio, which apparently consists of dog and cat fanciers. The central character looks a bit like a cat that started to melt into an armchair, then kept melting until it became a blob.

Today's press release describes the character's three main functions as follows:

  • Absorb: Absorb slimes that emerge through each stage, or even reabsorb your own clones. The larger you body becomes, the more clones you can create—opening up new ways to tackle puzzles.

  • Split: Split your chonky slime body to leave a clone behind. Place clones on switches, or use the recoil from splitting to launch yourself across wide gaps.

  • Possess: Send your soul to a distant clone and take control of its body. Careful clone placement and choosing the right moment to possess them are the key to solving stages.

Tama In-Between was built to allow players to enjoy it without needing to read, making it suitable for gamers around the world. It sounds like it could be perfect for Switch players, and in fact, a version for that platform is planned for 2027.

At launch, the game appears to be experiencing some challenges. The v1.0.1 patch notes that stage adjustments have been made in stages that were difficult to play. A few rough edges remain, and the team is working to improve them with future updates. In the meantime, it would love to hear your feedback.

I received a review copy of the game, and I hope to have something to say after some hands-on time with the game. In the meantime, know that it is available and affordable, and looks reasonably promising. If you'd like to learn more in the meantime, make sure to check out the official Tama In-Between Steam page.
