The Dokapon franchise isn't done quite yet, Idea Factory International announced in a press release issued yesterday evening. Dokapon Kingdom: Connect 2 is currently in development, and planned for a simultaneous worldwide release in Summer 2027.
Developed by Idea Factory in cooperation with Compile Heart and Sting, the role-playing adventure with party game elements is the latest in a niche series that I rather like. My friends and I spent dozens of hours with Dokapon Kingdom, which released on Wii and PlayStation 2.
Dokapon Kingdom: Connect, the previous game in the newer offshoot series, first launched on April 13, 2023 in Japan before making its way to North America and Europe the next month. Developed by Sting, that game earned an average rating of 63 out of 100 on Metacritic after reviews from 11 critics.
Apparently, critics didn't love the pacing of the game. It doesn't change much from the version I loved playing with my friends, from what I could tell, which sometimes could grow tedious as a person sat and watched other players take their turn. But it's still a neat concept, and I can't help but look forward to the next installment.
