Xbox owners may need to start clearing some room on their hard drives, as Microsoft has confirmed that highly anticipated shooter Halo 4 will require at least 8GB of free space.

The game will ship on two discs, the second requiring installation on the Xbox hard drive or a compatible flash storage device. This will be the only way to access Halo 4’s multiplayer features.

Once this installation is complete, Microsoft told GameSpot, players will only use the first disc to play Halo 4’s campaign and multiplayer content.

This news is hardly out of the blue, as Microsoft has previously advised players that they should install the game to their hard drives for an “optimal experience.” However, this is the first confirmation of the space required, a figure which may pose a problem for owners of the 20GB Xbox 360 model.

Multiplayer is a key feature of the Halo franchise, and new developer 343 Industries is aiming to expand the experience. Players will battle each other in War Games, in both established game types and some new additions, whereas they’ll have the option to team up for the all-new Spartan Ops, story-driven episodes released on a weekly basis that can be played alone or cooperatively with up to three other players.

Halo 4 is due for worldwide release on November 6th.
