Publisher NIS America announced today that Ys 8: Lacrimosa of DANA is on its way to Switch 2. It will arrive on Feb. 25, 2027, with support for Spanish (a first for the game).

Ys 8: Lacrimosa of DANA is already nearly a decade old, and dates back to May 25, 2017 in Japan, when it was released on PlayStation 4. The game has come to a variety of other systems, including the original Switch, but this new version will offer some welcome improvements.

According to the press release, the game will support up to 120 FPS, and GameShare functionality will allow you to adventure with a friend.

The game begins as Adol wakes on a cursed island. He and other shipwreck survivors build a village, where they plan to work to cooperate and find a way off the isle. However, Adol spends his nights dreaming of a mysterious blue-haired maiden (like we all do), and his days wondering who she is and what her secrets might be.

According to the press release, players should look forward to the following key features:

  • An Epic Tale: Follow Adol on his latest adventure and uncover the mysteries of the cursed island.

  • Party On!: Change your playable character on-the-fly as you battle ferocious foes in lighting-fast combat.

  • Another Side: Unravel the mystery of the blue-haired maiden Dana through her unique gameplay sections.

  • It Takes a Village!: Rescue your fellow shipwrecked passengers and bring them to your village where they will provide valuable services.

Ys 8: Lacrimosa of DANA has an average score of 85/100 on Metacritic, which is not too shabby. It is generally considered one of the best entry points if you're looking to get into the long-running Ys series, either for the first time or after a long absence.
