It would appear that the L.A. Noire you've possibly been playing all along is the incomplete version. There have been upgrades and additions, see, and you might not have all of them. Never fear, though; Rockstar has heard your cries for assistance and today the company announced the answer: L.A. Noire: The Complete Edition.
Scheduled for release on November 15, 2011 in North America and November 18th elsewhere, the "complete" version of the game will feature all of the previously released downloadable content. For those keeping track at home, that list includes the "Nicholson Electroplating" arson case, the "Reefer Madness" case, "The Consul's Car" traffic case, "The Naked City" case, the "A Slip of the Tongue" traffic case, The Badge Pursuit Challenge, plus all weapons and outfits.
Today's press release containing the announcement included links to all sorts of positive reviews for the game. "L.A. Noire is not only something totally new for the modern gamer," wrote someone at CNET, "it's one of the first cerebral titles that will force people to rethink the potential of video games."
The HonestGamers community was less impressed. In our staff review, Tom Chick wrote that "Rockstar wants to make a movie, but they have no idea how to fit it into a game." Two user reviews also are have been posted, and neither rates the game higher than a 6.
If you sort of like L.A. Noire, though, or if you're just ready to give it a shot and you're looking for the best point of entry, the new release is definitely it. With an MSRP of $49.99, the "complete" version of the game is potentially packed with value. It's also likely to cause a steep drop in price for the original release, so there's that.
