I'm getting fat. My waist is now up to 34" and I probably weigh something like 155 or 160. When I was in high school, I weighed more like 145 and I had a 30" waist most of that time. So yeah, I'm getting fat.
I decided to do something about it, so I went down to our apartment complex weight room. There's not a whole lot of equipment there, just some of the usual stuff where you sit in a bench and push your arms together to life weights or whatever. There's also a Nordic skiier machine.
It's boring as hell, and I was alone, but I tried to make the best of things by testing the skiier. I can't figure out how the darn thing works, so then there was that pedal machine where you just step up and down and the backs of your legs get sore. It said I was burning a lot of calories, and I did it for two minutes or so and got rid of 20 of the buggers, but my legs were sore so I went through the other machines. Anyway, long story short: I burned about 40 calories tonight and if I know me, that's the last time I'll ever visit the weight room. I need to do something, though. I don't want to gain a lot of weight!

Keep in mind that you don't NEED to have equipment to work out. Situps and pushups work wonders, and you can do them just about anywhere in your own house. Also, you'd be surprised how much weight you can burn not even trying. If you want to go to a store to pick up something small and the place is in walking distance, walk, don't drive. Go up the stairs instead of taking the elevator. If you're not hungry at lunchtime, don't eat lunch. Simple stuff.

I was in pretty good shape when I played sports in High School but now I'm starting to lose it all. I must've gained 8-10 pounds in the past year or so. I still look pretty good but I'm definitely going to do something about it this summer.
And yeah, exercise/lifting can be boring especially when you do it for two hours straight. But when you are focusing solely on achieving a certain goal it's all worth it in the end.

But, of course, exercise is good too and I concur with lasthero. There are ways to get in the burn other than straight-up exercise, especially if it's not your thing. I play DDR - not religiously, but I do so every now and then. And since taking Weight Training (currently), I found that keeping a weight card is a good incentive. After a few weeks, I could see that that my body has changed and that I am getting stronger by the numbers.
