Dragon Ball: Origins (DS)

Dragon Ball: Origins review (DS)

Reviewed on November 14, 2008

For many of us, Dragonball Z is synonymous with "my first anime". Big muscle-bound men powering up to over nine-thousand and beyond, taking on aliens, androids and a fat pink blob... Like it or loathe it, Akira Toriyama's testosterone-fuelled series, the first mainstream anime dub, made anime cool.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII review (PSP)

Reviewed on March 22, 2008

Final Fantasy VII. The RPG that took the gaming world by storm. And in recent times, the most milked role-playing saga ever. The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII has been mildly amusing, to put it nicely: Advent Children was an eye-popping, brainless fight-a-thon; Dirge of Cerberus was a similarly mindless, albeit somewhat entertaining blast-a-thon; and Before Crisis will forever remain a mystery to non-Japanese folk (which is a good thing). Despite the grandeu...
Devil May Cry 4 (PlayStation 3)

Devil May Cry 4 review (PS3)

Reviewed on February 10, 2008

I was one of many hardcore gamers eagerly anticipating Devil May Cry 4 - so much so that I even spoiled myself rotten by watching all the in-game cutscenes (from the earlier-released Japanese version) as they were put up on YouTube. I couldn't help myself. Every piece of information gathered got me more and more hyped up, and early impressions from the short, but sturdy demo just added fuel to the fire. Now that it's finally here, I'm very happy, yet still somewhat disappointed. Ri...
Contra: Hard Corps (Genesis)

Contra: Hard Corps review (GEN)

Reviewed on December 07, 2007

I hate to say it, but Contra: Hard Corps is HARDCORE. Dozens of enemy soldiers swamp you right from the get-go and huge robotic monstrosities tear through the cityscape in order to blast you to hell. Bullets whizz by loud and fast and explosions from countless wreckages fill the screen with dazzling pyrotechnics. With all the carnage going on there's very little time to sit down and think about how you're going to save the world. Oh, and forget about keeping an eye on your life...

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare review (DS)

Ooooh, terrorists. . . scary bastards.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (DS)

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney review (DS)

Reviewed on November 02, 2007

What would the world be like without lawyers? An inhospitable wasteland full of creeps? Or an amicable society free of backstabbing SOBs? Either way, everyone knows that you can't live them, nor can you live without them.
Dementium: The Ward (DS)

Dementium: The Ward review (DS)

Reviewed on October 30, 2007

Dementium. It may not be a real word, but it doesn’t take a genius to realise that it’s a derivative of both “dementia” and “demented”; two words that describe a state of intellectual deterioration and the characteristics of manic behaviour, respectively. Can you feel the darkness already? You awake one night to find yourself holed up in a decrepit room, part of some hospital ward which you don’t remember being admitted into. It’s thundery outside. You can hear the roof tiles ...

Transformers: Autobots (DS)

Transformers: Autobots review (DS)

Reviewed on September 03, 2007

Transformers: The Movie is a seriously kick-arse film about a hyperactive kid helping out some colossal Japanese robots to cause one billion dollars worth of damage to the city, and in doing so, he also manages to score a goddess of a hot chick. Transformers: Autobots, one half of the official DS games of the movie, does away with all of that nonsense, and instead leaves us stuck in a Grand Theft Auto inspired sandbox... for better or for worse? We'll soon find out.
Mega Man Star Force: Leo (DS)

Mega Man Star Force: Leo review (DS)

Reviewed on August 27, 2007

Ever since his heroic astronaut father got lost in space, young Geo Stelar has never been the same. He withdrew himself from the world that carried on turning, abandoning school and hence any hope of new-found friendship. Geo became a loner. But then one day, something extraordinary happens. An alien life-form composed entirely of electromagnetic waves lands in Geo’s favourite lookout spot and without stopping to breathe in the fresh oxygenated air, it approaches the emotionally torn boy. The my...
Brave Story: New Traveler (PSP)

Brave Story: New Traveler review (PSP)

Reviewed on August 20, 2007

This is the story of a young boy named Tatsuya. He absolutely loves to play videogames (who doesn't?), so much so that his girlfriend often feels neglected around him. One day, his dearest falls ill under mysterious circumstances; this is Tatsuya's wake-up call. Desperate to save her, our ten year old protagonist drops to his knees and as fortune would have it, he opens up a portal into a fantasy world called Vision: a realm where one's deepest desires are granted by an almighty Goddess who lies...
Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure (PSP)

Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure review (PSP)

Reviewed on August 14, 2007

Poor Parin. Her mother and father have decided to go off on a grand adventure and believing that their dear sweet child is too juvenile to tag along with them, they unceremoniously dump her with the grandfather who resides in a remote mining town with absolutely nothing to do apart from twiddling one’s thumbs. What’s a twelve year old girl to do in such a place that epitomises the exact opposite of fun and games? As that helium-pumped dinosaur, Barney, would put it - it’s time to use your imagin...
God of War II (PlayStation 2)

God of War II review (PS2)

Reviewed on August 04, 2007

Kratos. He was once a legendary Spartan warrior who fought in many great wars, and he conquered all of them. However, there was one battle he could not win. On the verge of a grisly defeat, he implored for the assistance of the God of War, Ares, to come down and smite his foes. In exchange for the godly intervention, Kratos’ soul now belonged to the vile deity. This set the scene for the events that occurred in the first God of War.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves review (WII)

Reviewed on July 24, 2007

Another Nintendo console, another WarioWare collection of silly, crazy, zany, madcap, way out, off the wall and wild microgames. This time, Wario and his gang of silly, crazy, zany, madcap, way out, off the wall and wild characters have a new toy to play with: the wii-mote. What does this new-fangled device have in store for us? Are the microgames as charmingly addictive as they were in the four prequels that came before? Does Wario finally wii-n?

World Wars I and II are events that will forever be etched into the memories of human kind. The calamities tore apart many great nations and brought about a harsh reality to those living in its wake. The brave souls that fought for their countries in countless battle, who went through unimaginable hardships, striving to make ends meet through a combination of strategy, mortar fire and lady luck - thinking about these soldiers, these Brothers in Arms, incites feelings of courage, patriot...
The Lion King (Genesis)

The Lion King review (GEN)

Reviewed on June 10, 2007

Imagine being born a prince, knowing that one day you will have to lead a great kingdom forwards through the times. The responsibility is enormous. Such is the position that our young lion cub, Simba, finds himself in Disney’s The Lion King. But he couldn’t really care less. Instead of building himself up to be a worthy successor to the throne, he yearns to roam carefree about the Pridelands day after day; he wants it all right now and he just can’t wait to be king. Whi...
Spider-Man 2 (DS)

Spider-Man 2 review (DS)

Reviewed on May 31, 2007

If you have been keeping up with the flow of DS reviews that have been trickling out of my head recently, Spider-Man is a name that should be firmly embossed inside yours. There are 4 Spidey games currently available on the DS platform, and Spider-Man 2 was the first one released, back when the DS made its sketchy debut. I now bring the quadrilogy of reviews to a close by spilling my guts on this launch title. Bear in mind that it’s quite disgusting – my guts that is.

Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X review (PSP)

What happens when you remake one of the best games ever, substituting classic 2D sprites with more modern 3D polygonal models? Well it can no longer be considered one of the best games ever anymore. Close enough though.
