Fallout: New Vegas' lead designer makes his own mod
It's one thing for some random fan to come up with a particularly interesting mod. It's yet another for a game's lead designer to make one, putting it out for all to use, free of charge. Joshua Sawyer, lead designer of Fallout: New Vegas, has done just that.
Keep in mind, though, that this mod is not for the faint of heart. It takes the difficulty to extreme levels. Only the masochistic need apply.
The game lowers the level cap to 35, halves XP gain, reduces the drop rate of water and food, and even brings health down to a quarter what it would normally be. The full change list can be found here.
If the mere sight of those changes doesn't fill you with dread, you can download the mod here. As for why it's an unofficial mod, the main reason is that it's not something Sawyer wanted to force onto people, for understandable reasons.
Obsidian has moved on to new projects, making this feel like an unofficial send-off for the popular open world RPG. Who knows when gamers will next return to Fallout's wasteland, or who will be in charge of development when they do.
