Square Enix decides Forspoken is a better name than Project Athia

Here's hoping you didn't get 'project athia' tattooed on your bicep, because now you'd look silly.

Project Athia will now be known as Forspoken, Square Enix announced today during its digital showcase event. The game is in development for PlayStation 5 and PC, as announced previously, and will serve as the debut title from Luminous Productions.

Ella Balinska, an actress best known for starring in the 2019 remake of Charlie's Angels, will appear as the game's protagonist, Frey Holland.

"As the first video game I've worked on, and growing up a huge fan of video games myself, it's remarkable to see the incredible world and story of Forspoken come together, blurring the lines between reality and fantasy," said Balinska. "Frey as a character is real, she's raw, she's a girl who lost her way--both figuratively and literally--and is a character I immediately connected with, as I feel many people around the world will too when they set off on this adventure."

Frey explores the unknown world of Athia, a harsh environment full of magic, monsters and treachery. Peril is her constant companion, and she'll need to keep her wits about her if she is to survive in a world that pretty much wants to kill her as soon as possible.

Forspoken is being developed with plans to release it on PS5 and PC simultaneously, at some unspecified point in 2022. It will "provide a gaming experience like never before," according to its developers. Here's hoping they still let us play it with a controller.
