If Nintendo isn't ready to give us another PilotWings just yet, someone else might as well take a crack at it...

Wild River and Z-Software announced today the Nintendo eShop availability of Pilot Sports, a cartoony flight game that lets players soar through the clouds in planes and other such contraptions, or parachute toward the ground.

"Kiss the sky with jetpacks, planes and other exhilarating aircraft on more than 50 breathtaking courses with different modes and challenges to encourage exploration," says a press release blurb. "Select from eight sky-worthy pilots and test their flying mettle in daring trials across a tropical island paradise."

There's no telling how the craft control and how the experience comes together unless I get my hands on a controller and start playing the game myself. But looking at the screenshots, I have to say I'm getting a definite PilotWings vibe, and I consder that a good thing.

"The scenic island makes for the perfect open-skies playground to shoot for perfect scores," adds the press release, as if I didn't just say very nice things about the game it's trying to pitch. "With plenty of collectables and an unlockable explorer mode, there are plenty of opportunities to wander the island in search of new sights and scenery."

The game also supports a four-player split-screen mode, which its developer figures makes it "the ultimate game for family and party entertainment." But that's the kind of thing a lot of developers are saying about software for the Switch these days, and really, there can only be one ultimate game for that purpose. That's how "ultimate" works.

Pilot Sports is only available for Nintendo Switch right now, but don't let yourself get excessively envious if you're stuck with just a PlayStation 4. That version of the game is due a week from now, on October 4, 2018. So you'll get to have your fun too. It'll just take slightly longer to happen.
