NIS America this evening announced that it will be bringing Lapis * Re * Abyss (『ラピス・リ・アビス』) west as Lapis x Labyrinth. The game is headed to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, and is developed by Nippon Ichi Software in Japan.

Lapis x Labyrinth, as we now know to call it, features a rather unique premise. Here is the description from today's press release:

"A small village in a small kingdom has been hit with some tough financial times, thankfully they are sitting on a whole trove of treasure! Dive into the Labyrinth atop a forest that shimmers like gold in search of beaucoup bucks with your customized crew of adventurers! Using the creative stacking mechanic you can flip between up to 4 adventurers on the fly and deploy their individual attacks while keeping them all on top of your head!"

The game will release in Japan on November 29, 2018, but no definite release date has been revealed for North America just yet. A release at some point in 2019 seems likely, and it seems a bit early to guess whether it will be available on cartridge and disc or exclusive to the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store (it does appear to be a download-only title in Japan, however).

If you're not scared of a little Japanese, you can check out the game's official Japanese site and get a look at the attractive art style and fast-paced action the title offers. Now that it has started talking about the game, NIS America will probably have new details to share in the weeks ahead, so watch for that also.
