Gato Roboto headed to Nintendo Switch and PC next year from Devolver Digital

It's a game about a cat. That can jump in a mech suit. And explore and blast things and such.

This is not a drill: someone (Donksoft, in this case) is hard at work on a game that lets you play as a cat that is also able to pilot a mech suit and explore presumably alien worlds. It is appropriately called Gato Roboto and it is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC in 2019.

Devolver Digital today announced the game in a breathless press release and promised the game will be playable in booth 1813 at PAX this weekend. It also revealed a teaser trailer, which I am kindly embedding below for your supreme convenience.

Gato Roboto features a basic, two-tone art style with a cute cartoony look, but it features the sort of passageways and violent encounters you might expect from Metroid or Blaster Master. PR calls it "a cat Mechtroidvania game," but probably don't hold your breath waiting for that one to become an established sub-genre.

Not a lot is known about the game, beyond what you can see for yourself in the above trailer (or experience for yourself on the show floor at PAX, if you're fortunate enough to be in attendance), but for now consider my interest piqued. I kind of wish I could play it right meow.
