During the NES era, Capcom teamed up with Disney to produce some of the greatest license-based games ever, titles that were developed by some of the same talent that produced other huge hits like Mega Man. Many of those games are remembered fondly today, and some of the old NES cartridges go for hundreds of dollars if you can find them in good condition. Until now, there hasn't been a way to go back and play those games, unless you're willing to shell out a lot of money or resort to emulation. Until now.
Today, Capcom released a new video to promote the Disney Afternoon Collection, which is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam as a download-only title. It will cost $19.99, which isn't a terrible price for the six included games, and will be available starting April 18.
The collection includes every Disney title Capcom produced for the NES, with the exception of The Little Mermaid (which was actually quite good, and would have been a nice inclusion despite not being part of the television programming block the collection celebrates) and Adventures in the Magic Kingdom. Specifically, that means you get DuckTales 1 and 2, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 1 and 2, Darkwing Duck and Tailspin.
The ports look fairly faithful, without obviously enhanced visuals, but there are some new modes. As in games like Rare Replay (or the Prince of Persia remake, if you want to go back a little further), you'll be able to rewind action when things don't go your way and Darkwing Duck plummets into a pit or some such thing. There's also a boss rush mode, if that's your thing. In my opinion, the boss fights were one of the weakest elements of those original games, so I can't see myself spending much time there.
If you're anxious to relive the glory days of yesteryear and you don't own an NES and the cartridges, this looks to be a terrific opportunity. I'm sad the game hasn't been announced for Switch, but there's nothing saying such an announcement can't come along a bit down the road. It would obviously be a perfect fit, so it seems likely to happen. In the meantime, I might have to buy one of the other versions, anyway. You know... just to be safe.

Back then, I only played Darkwing Duck and Chip & Dale 1, the latter being a rental, so maybe this might finally motivate me to play the others that people have been gushing about for years.
