Mad Max
A great action movie. The plot is very very simple, it never slows down for more than five minutes and the whole thing looks and sounds stunning. What more do you want from Mad Max? I love the fact that the War Boys take a metal band across the wasteland with them. It makes zero sense but it is damn cool. I was slightly worried beforehand that the screen would be jerking all over the place like in every mediocre modern action film but Miller and his team know when to leave the camera in one position and let you see exactly what's going on. FIVE STARS.
Montage of Heck
Doesn't really have anything to say about Kurt Cobain that you can't read on Wikipedia, but it's put together in a nice way with all the songs and clips and some trendy animated bits. THREE STARS
Avengers: Age of Ultron
This film feels dull and bloated when compared with the super fast and super exciting Mad Max. I enjoyed it to an extent, but it's just the same old stuff. Stark being annoying. Hulk being sulky. Captain America being earnest. Some crazy super villain who is the most powerful super villain ever until the next film. Yawn. And I definitely could have done without the embarrassing subplot involving Hawkeye's family. Joss Whedon sticks in some nice superhero movie moments and there are some amusing lines and visual jokes to remind you that no one's really taking it that seriously but it's all just a bit stale and predictable. Guardians of the Galaxy was much much better. TWO STARS.
Radio On
Saw this on DVD. A British road movie with minimal dialogue shot in black and white with a new wave soundtrack. It opens with Bowie singing Heroes in German. Arty but surprisingly engaging. FOUR STARS.
My Neighbour Totoro
Feel good animation. FOUR STARS

Ultron was fine but completely inconsequential. It's just weird that of all the MCU Phase 2 movies, that's possibly the one that feels the least important.

Winter Soldier is the only really good Phase 2 movie, although it's still not as good as the original Iron Man. I'm personally looking forward to "X-Men: Apocalypse" more than the Infinity Wars.
