South Park: The Stick of Truth (PC) review

"Now Go and Buy This Game"

South Park: The Stick of Truth is a light-RPG set in the South Park universe following all of your favourite South Park characters through your adventure through the Stick of Truth. Depending on your choices the game does in fact change your experience, but I wouldn't take this too seriously as nearly all choices result in a humourous outcome.

Graphics

The graphical fidelity is true to the show, stimulating the experience of being in a 10+ hour long episode of South Park. The graphics are pleasant to look at and there are no real complaints to have about the graphics. In some cases textures for explosions were purposely made to look like a low budget movie for the humourous effect. Overall the developers nailed this section with pleasant graphics that are easy on the eyes- allowing me to play for countless hours straight.

Gameplay

South Park: The Stick of Truth is a light-RPG turn based comedy game, just by reading this it sounds like the developers had implemented strategies from Game Dev Tycoon into their game- but yet again, I just cannot complain. The gameplay is wonderful, it flows perfectly: nothing too difficult that players may not understand, nothing to easy that the players feel unaccomplished after a fight. The main characters from the show are offered to you to be your 'Buddy' which is essentially a partner that you also control in fights (which also have use during quests too!). Each character offers different abilities and play styles to allow major change in the combat which I believe stopped it getting stale. I used Butters as he was my favourite character from the show, offering witty one liners and exciting abilities I once again have to say the developers absolutely nailed this section.

Music/SFX/Voice Acting

First off with the voice acting. Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the people who voice act all of the well known characters from the show, do the voice acting in this game! Honestly to me this is insane, the voice acting is exactly the same as the show offering the player with maximal amounts of immersion. The music was enjoyable, it offered humour in certain stages of the game. Giving the player battle music, walking music, and even music from Jimmy The Bard! Not really much to say about the SFX, not very noticeable or effective in changing the game.

Comedy

I believe the comedy aspect of this game needs its own section. Even if you aren't a fan of South Park's crude humour I believe you will still find a good laugh in this game every once in a while. And is you are a fan of the humour in South Park, this game was made for you. Nazi's, offensive language, suggestive humour, blunt humour, and even more. This game is a love letter for South Park fans.

Overall

South Park™: The Stick of Truth™ has revistalised my urge to play video games, I have been in a drought of never being able to finish games just through the lack of desire but this game allowed me to burn through it with pure enjoyment in 2 days! I played for 7 hours in one day, I was fully immersed for the whole experience all the way to the credits rolling. This game is a modern masterpiece and unlike most video games based off popular media, this game is not a cash in. This game is a must play for absolutely everyone. The crude humour, the graphical fidelity, the immersion created by the voice acting and the exciting gameplay allow this game to be one of the best games I have ever played.
