Jak and Daxter Collection coming Feb. 2012
It looks like Jak and his furry, loud-mouthed sidekick Daxter got the invite to the HD collection party after all.
Naughty Dog announced today via the PlayStation Blog that the Jak and Daxter Collection will be jumping onto store shelves near you in Feb. 2012. The collection will consist of of the original title, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II and Jak 3 in 720p. (There's been no mention of the inclusion of Daxter's standalone PSP adventure, Daxter.) Of course, no HD collection now-a-days is complete without full stereoscopic 3D support -- not to mention trophies -- and all three games in the collection will sport both features.
Mass Media is handling the "HDification" of the games, and Evan Wells, Naughty Dog's co-president, assured fans via the PlayStation Blog that both studios will be working closely on the project.
Much like most game series getting the HD treatment, the Jak and Daxter games are classics. In their heyday, they were arguably at the top of the platformer world of games that aren't Super Mario 64. While I never beat the first game, I remember absolutely loving Jak II, with its open world, unique weapons and hilarious, well-acted script. If you've never played these or have a soft spot in your heart for this series, I suggest you circle Feb. 2012 on your calendars.
