CONSORTIUM: Master Edition review (PC)

Reviewed on May 14, 2014

CONSORTIUM has come a long way since January, so if you put it down or gave it a miss because of its buggy launch then CONSORTIUM: Master Edition is worth a second look.
Excruciating Guitar Voyage (PC)

Excruciating Guitar Voyage review (PC)

Reviewed on November 28, 2010

Excruciating Guitar Voyage is obviously trying to lampoon, [but] it's too far over that line to be funny anymore. Ultimately, it tries too hard and ends up becoming the kind of amateurish and unpolished game it sets out to make fun of.
Flotilla (PC)

Flotilla review (PC)

Reviewed on October 03, 2010

I bet you think it's all fun and games, captaining a space ship. I bet to you it's bucketloads of adventure and alien girls and space monsters and cyborgs, and all the other stuff Star Trek says? Well let me tell you something, flatlander; Star Trek has it wrong.
Torchlight (PC)

Torchlight review (PC)

Reviewed on January 27, 2010

To its credit, Torchlight is much more than just a cash-in on our nostalgia. As much as it is an homage to its diabolic predecessor, Torchlight easily stands on its own as a game. Rather than using those familiar Diablo elements as a crutch, it takes those elements and gives them just enough of a twist to make them fresh again.
Return to Mysterious Island 2: Mina's Fate (PC)

Return to Mysterious Island 2: Mina's Fate review (PC)

Reviewed on December 12, 2009

Despite a couple of hiccups, Return to Mysterious Island 2 does enough of the important things right to deliver a unique and slightly nostalgic experience, and is sufficiently different from its older sibling to justify its place on the fence between Sequel and Expansion.
Restaurant Empire 2 (PC)

Restaurant Empire 2 review (PC)

Reviewed on November 05, 2009

What challenges await my Restaurant Empire next month? Liquor licenses and dumb waiters that cost an arm and a leg, but net long-term profits? Hiring additional staff and firing problem employees? Optimizing seating and serving paths for best results? From the looks of it, yes.
Hearts of Iron III (PC)

Hearts of Iron III review (PC)

Reviewed on September 11, 2009

A Grand Strategy game, for those readers who have no idea what it is, is a game that simulates everything. Gameplay is conducted at the national level, in contrast to more a conventional game like Company of Heroes which takes place at the battalion level. Rather than commanding soldiers and vehicles on the battlefield, the player has at his disposal the resources and manpower of an entire nation.
Space War Commander (PC)

Space War Commander review (PC)

Reviewed on May 30, 2009

Space War Commander is simple enough that it can be picked up and learned very quickly, and won't eat up your time with long-winded matches like other RTS games. The only thing really missing is multiplayer support, but even so Space War Commander is a superb time-killer
Sword of the Stars: Ultimate Collection (PC)

Sword of the Stars: Ultimate Collection review (PC)

Reviewed on May 25, 2009

Sword of the Stars: Ultimate Collection brings in some wonderfully fresh ideas, but stays true to the 4X formula. This is a game with a lot of depth and a lot to learn, and you aren't likely to master it in a weekend.
Supreme Ruler 2020: Global Crisis (PC)

Supreme Ruler 2020: Global Crisis review (PC)

Reviewed on April 27, 2009

Global Crisis doesn't do anything wrong by any definition, very competently building on the strengths of the core game and bringing more toys and scenarios to the mix. But neither does it add anything really new that shakes up the gameplay, and I confess to a bit of disappointment at that.
Sins of a Solar Empire – Entrenchment (PC)

Sins of a Solar Empire – Entrenchment review (PC)

Reviewed on April 21, 2009

Originally slated for release near the beginning of this year, Stardock wisely delayed this expansion and instead opened up beta testing to the community, allowing anyone who'd pre-ordered the game (such as myself) to contribute to development. The result is one of the most polished expansions I've seen in my many years of digital conquest, well-balanced and virtually bug-free upon official release.
Supreme Ruler 2020 (PC)

Supreme Ruler 2020 review (PC)

Reviewed on March 12, 2009

Supreme Ruler: 2020 is exactly what I adore: a strat title nearly unapproachable due to its level of depth, but promising months upon months of diverse enjoyment. I do so love a challenge.
Multiwinia: Survival of the Flattest (PC)

Multiwinia: Survival of the Flattest review (PC)

Reviewed on December 08, 2008

Rather than carefully constructing a balanced army, Multiwinia demands victory through superior manouvers, feinting and flanking, and knowing when to retreat and when to press the attack. Should you amass your Multis for a later assault, or have them charge out of the spawn points to bolster that choke point? All this planning might sound complicated, but Multiwinia's intuitive interface frees up enough brainpower to make tactical planning almost instinctual, as easy as 3.141592653589...
Spooky Spirits (PC)

Spooky Spirits review (PC)

Reviewed on October 31, 2008

I feel a little cheap not saying more about Spooky Spirits, but there isn't a whole lot more to say. And that's good; it adheres to the basics of its genre and provides challenging, logical puzzles and intuitive controls to solve them with, with nothing frilly or gimickey that tries to add depth.
1701 A.D. Gold Edition (PC)

1701 A.D. Gold Edition review (PC)

Reviewed on September 09, 2008

Chances are you know the game's titular century well enough; the late 1600's and early 1700's serve as the backdrop for just about every pirate movie, game, and comic book known to man. Do pirates factor into 1701? A little, but the game's focus is more on the other, less popularized aspects of the era.
Great War Nations: The Spartans (PC)

Great War Nations: The Spartans review (PC)

Reviewed on June 09, 2008

I thought this was supposed to be a historical RTS. You know, based on actual history. That's what it sells itself as, anyway...But I'm reasonably certain none of the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean had the power to throw magical fireballs.
