Time Warner released that bit of information in a press release detailing its yearly earnings. We knew the title had already shipped 4.6 million copies in October of last year (while selling two million in its first week), but this is the first time we hear a total shipped units number for 2011. Surely, Arkham City's sales played its own small, yet important role in helping increase Warner Bros. annual revenue by $1 billion (nine percent) in 2011, with the Harry Potter films doing some more of the heavier lifting in both theaters and DVD/Blu-ray/digital sales.
I daresay congratulations are in order to Rocksteady, Warner Bros. and DC Comics for, well, you know, making money, but also making an excellent Batman title with Arkham City. If you haven't checked out the game yet, maybe our review can sway you.
