Aspyr bringing Star Wars Republic Commando to Switch and PS4 this April

The Star Wars classic is coming soon to a console not far away...

Star Wars Republic Commando will release on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on April 6, 2021, developer Aspyr announced today. Finally, console loyalists can battle for the Republic without pulling out their Xbox.

Originally released around this time of the year but in 2005, Star Wars: Republic Commando is a first-person shooter with tactical elements that debuted on the original Xbox and also appeared on PC. It received a favorable response from critics and players alike, but we haven't heard much from the property since... until now.

Short of a sequel, this is just about the best news we might reasonably have hoped for in 2021. On both Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, Star Wars Republic Commando will feature modernized controls and carry an MSRP of $14.99.

"Since its original launch in 2005, Republic Commando continues to be a fan-favorite Star Wars game," said Ted Staloch, Aspyr's co-founder. "We're honored to be able to work with Lucasfilm Games to bring back this beloved moment in franchise history."

Though the game, you control the infamous Delta Squad. Your squad follows your orders and your lead, injecting the arcade-style shooting action with a layer of strategy as you cooperate with your crew to defeat enemies ranging from Trandoshan mercenaries to flying insectoid warriers.

Star Wars Republic Commando is already available for preorder on the Nintendo eShop in both North America and Europe, and April 6 isn't all that far away, so maybe start planning now if you're hoping to book a trip to another galaxy.
