Curve Digital and FuturLab announced today the arrival of Velocity 2X on the Nintendo eShop. The game is available with an MSRP of £14.99 / €19.99 / $19.99, with a 20% discount on offer during the introductory period.

Velocity 2X presents players with 66 increasingly difficult stages and offers online leaderboards so players must compete not only with themselves, but others around the world. The real hook, though, is the way the title blends 2D action platforming with vertical shooting segments, to create an uncommon blend that's high on adrenaline.

Originally launched on PlayStation 4 and Vita in 2014, Velocity 2X later came to Xbox One, PC, Mac and Linux. Each iteration has delighted critics and fans, garnering the game glowing reviews and building great memories for those who have played it.

The game tells the story of Lt. Kai Tana, a pilot stranded far from home, on the far side of a black hole. She has escaped from aliens who captured her and performed demented experiments on her, and now she has all the motivation in the world to get home in her Quarp Jet.

"We've always been big fans of Nintendo and handheld gaming in general, so bringing Velocity 2X to Switch is really exciting," said FuturLab Managing Director James Marsden. "We can't wait for a new audience to experience our labour of love on Switch!"

So yes, Velocity 2X is available on yet another platform, and maybe this time more people will play it and learn what they've been missing. I'm sure that wouldn't hurt FuturLab's feelings any!
