Artifex Mundi announced today the upcoming release of My Brother Rabbit, a "heartwarming" adventure game about children coping with tragic circumstances and the protective world they build in their minds to enable that.

Slated to arrive on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac and PC on September 21, 2018, My Brother Rabbit centers on a brother and his younger sister, who has fallen gravely ill. The brother uses his imagination to distract her from the ailment, and the two escape to a land of make-believe.

In that world, a rabbit tends to his friend, a flower recently afflicted by a sickness. He embarks on a journey to find a cure for his flower, which will require those playing the game to solve puzzles, find hidden objects and solve riddles. There also are mini-games, which can be played to improve a song a device emits until finally it sounds as beautiful as the rabbit envisions.

Progressing through the game causes the two worlds--the tragic present with the boy and his sister, and the fantastic world of the rabbit and its flower--to slowly merge as the children begin to see a way through their current despair. Visuals throughout the game look like they will be brighter and more cheerful than the subject matter suggests, and composer Arkadiusz Reikowski (Layers of Fear and Seven: The Days Long Gone) has penned an "inspiring" score to emphasize the world's whimsical, necessarily distracting delights.

"We feel that players will form a bond with the children in My Brother Rabbit because of their enduring spirit," said Tomasz Grudziński, CEO at Artifex Mundi. "Though this story begins with a tragedy, these children always hope for a brighter future."

My Brother Rabbit isn't yet available on digital storefronts that I could find, but that should change soon. It carries an MSRP of $14.99 USD. You can find more information on the game's official site.
