Shikhondo: Soul Eater is a bullet hell shooter developed by Korean studio DeerFarm, and it was favorably received when it arrived on PC last year. Now the game is on its way to consoles, courtesy of Digerati Distribution, to fulfill all of your shmup needs.
According to a press release issued late last night, after most of the good little game journalists had gone to bed, Shikhondo: Soul Eater will arrive on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as a digital title. It is due on August 28 on Xbox One, August 28/29 on PlayStation 4 (depending on whether you live in North America or Europe) and on August 30 for Nintendo Switch.
No matter which version of Shikhondo: Soul Eater you play, you should look forward to enemies and environments inspired by Asian mythology, as well as Oriental artwork to go with it. The console versions support an all-new 2-player local co-op mode that is specific to consoles.
Here is a proper list of game features, supplied by the game's publisher:
- Five stages of intense bullet-hell action and hypnotic barrage patterns
- Game modes include: Arcade, Hardcore, Boss Rush and Local Co-op
- Fly close to enemy bullets to fill the Soul Gauge and unleash a super attack for high scores
- Two playable characters, each with their own types of attack
- Online leaderboards for high score glory
- Demonic enemies and bosses inspired by Asian mythology
- Stunning and intricate Oriental artwork
- Platinum Trophy and 1000G Achievements available respectively for PS4 and Xbox One versions
The scrolling shooter has received a lot of attention on various consoles lately, and the Nintendo Switch in particular, but many of the games showing up have been simple ports of yesteryear's classics. Shikhondo: Soul Eater is something a little different, and could cater to genre fans who have played all of the classics without quenching their thirst for screens full of bullets. Are you one such individual?
