GameStop selling Devil May Cry HD Collection early

Devil May Cry HD Collection image

If you can't wait until Tuesday, you may be in luck.

Though it has/had an official release date of April 3 (this coming Tuesday), it appears some brick-and-mortar outlets may be selling the Devil May Cry HD Collection as soon as, well, now. Specifically: GameStop, according to a Joystiq report.

"Physical retailers are able to sell Devil May Cry HD before the launch date because the title's street date has been removed," a GameStop rep told the blog.

For fans of the white-haired, devil-hunting Dante, that sounds like some stylishly awesome news. I'd advise you to call ahead to make sure your local store is partaking in this early sale, though.

The collection includes HD-ified versions of Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition. Devil May Cry 4 is apparently not included because, well, it's already in HD, I guess. Also, because I didn't like it. That's probably also a reason.

If you're looking for some Devil May Cry action you haven't experienced, though, you'll have to wait for DmC, a Ninja Theory-developed take on Dante's devilish universe. No release date has been announced for that one yet, though. We'll keep you posted.

It would be tough, I think, to go back to Devil May Cry 1. The controls in that game were really shoddy. Made it way harder than it had to be. Devil May Cry 2 was pretty terrible. Devil May Cry 3 was a great game, but slow compared to more recent action titles. After God of War and Bayonetta, it's just hard to go back to the DMC series. I know some may think that's a blasphemy, but having been a big fan I feel qualified to say it.

After the TERRIBLE ports of Silent Hill 2 and 3 to HD, I'm going to have to wait this one out and see. I hope the HD collection for DMC will be good, because Silent Hill's HD was a huge downgrade in visuals and had a ton of frame rate and screen tearing issues.

I'm not paying money for a disc with DMC2 on it.

DMC3 is still one of the best action titles out there, though. With Ninja Gaiden Black and Bayonetta, you'd have the holy trinity.
