User Help > Game Ratings
If you're a registered user, you're free to rate any of more than 30,000 games currently listed in the site database. Have questions? Hopefully, they're answered below. Just click on the hyperlinked question that matches your personal area of interest, or scroll down through the page for a good overview of the whole process.
How do I rate a game?
Can I rate a game more than once?
Can I rate a game I've never played?
Does the site keep an overall record of my ratings?
Can you tell me which games are rated most favorably on the site?
If you have a question that is not addressed on the page below, you should feel free to contact site staff or post about it on the forums. The latter option is preferred, since other users may be able to point you to an answer more quickly in some cases.
While logged into your free user account, simply explore the site as you normally would. When you come across a game profile page, or when you're reading a staff or user review (among other places), you'll see an option to rate the game in question along the right side of the page. You can click the "Rate Game" link to find a page that will walk you through the process.
Can I rate a game more than once?
To keep results fair, you are not permitted to rate a game more than once. That's why only registered users can rate games. We don't want someone coming along that hates a game, then casting 10 or 20 votes to bring down its average score. Nor do we want someone to come along that loves the game and awards it a perfect score multiple times. The game ratings system is devised to be an accurate reflection not necessarily of the game's quality, but of its perceived quality within our community.
Can I rate a game I've never played?
Though we discourage such behavior officially, we're not going to do anything about it if you rate a game you've never played. You have one vote for any game in the database, whether you've played it or not. You can always go back and edit your rating, too, if you decide later that it wasn't fair. We do ask that you make every effort to rate games according to your knowledge (and hopefully personal experience), rather than just voting the way you think others might... or voting to get revenge on a publisher or developer that has wronged you. If it becomes clear that you're rating games out of malice and not contributing honestly to the process, your votes may be removed.
Does the site keep an overall record of my ratings?
All of your votes are recorded on your account. You and other users can easily view the complete record from your blog by clicking the "My Ratings" link along the top navigation bar. This is a handy way to see if there are any ratings you've thought better of that need fixing, since it's always possible to update ratings you award games.
Can you tell me which games are rated most favorably on the site?
The top-rated game on the site may change over time (certainly that seems likely), so we don't keep a static list. Instead, we let the site dynamically tally which games are the most popular. You can find out about the most highly-rated games at any given time by clicking "Top Rated" in the navigation bar at the top of each standard page on the site. Make sure that you vote for your favorite games so they make the list!
