Grand Theft Auto V will sell more than Call of Duty in 2012, says analyst

An Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) analyst thinks Grand Theft Auto V will outsell next year's assumptive Call of Duty title.

An Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) analyst thinks Grand Theft Auto V, which had its trailer unveiled recently, will outsell next year's assumptive Call of Duty title.

It's definitely a bold statement, considering the juggernaut Call of Duty has been in recent years, but the analyst, Jesse Divnich, sounded pretty confident when he spoke of his prediction with Industry Gamers.

"Don't get me wrong, Call of Duty will undoubtedly be huge, as it is every year and it may even grow," he said. "But if I had to call what will be a photo finish race, I will go with GTA V."

While I find it a tough pill to swallow in terms of long-term sales, 2012's sales "winner" could be GTA V if it releases well ahead of Call of Duty, giving Rockstar's next open world adventure a head start. And what if maybe, just maybe, some folks begin getting tired of this Call of Duty thing? When/if one releases next year, it'll be seven straight years of a new title in the franchise hitting shelves. Could CoD go the way of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Guitar Hero?
