A Rayman Origins demo will make its way to the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store on Nov. 9, according to a Ubisoft press release.

The demo will sport three maps from the platformer's Jungle, Food and Ocean worlds, which sounds like a pretty good deal for a free downloadable demo. And, believe it or not, there's more. Players who collect nine Electoons in the demo will unlock a new costume for the limbless hero. The press release, however, was not clear if this costume would be for use in the demo or for the game's retail release. In any case, it's nice to see a publisher do something like this for a demo, especially when trivial things like costumes and/or skins are oftentimes reserved for paid downloadable content packs nowadays.

Origins hits PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii on Nov. 15 in North America. The Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita versions of the title don't yet have solid release dates. The story centers around, well, Rayman, as he and his buddies set out to defeat the evil Darktoons and save the Glade of Dreams, a world created by the Bubble Dreamer (Polokus from Rayman 2).

Sure, the narrative doesn't sound like anything you'll be telling your grandchildren about, but based on gameplay videos I've seen, it looks like another fun platformer in the usually solid Rayman series. And you just can't deny the game's absolutely charming visual style. I'm a bit excited to take this one for a spin later this month.
