Oh, Gothic 3...
December 12, 2018

At the beginning of Gothic 3's campaign, my first order of business was to locate a super secret hidden rebel base that no one could find, not even the orcs that conquered all of the cities in the land.

I found the base in a huge, conspicuous hole in the ground, surrounded by laborers noisily pounding hammers and sawing wood.

But none of the orcish patrols could ever find the place. Such a brilliant hidey-hole...

Later on, I needed to get in touch with an imprisoned paladin named Wenzel, who was being held in a town called Cape Dun. Seems Wenzel had a plan for overthrowing the orcs and liberating the berg. I figured it might be some complex, strategic mission that involved an all out assault from the rebels nearby, along with a few extra steps to ensure our victory. Something cool like that.

Nope. His plan was to simply start attacking orcs right where he stood in prison, which resulted in the two of us getting boxed in by nearly a dozen enemies. Meanwhile, all two of our allies in town, and a handful of slaves who couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag, would support us. Some plan.

A mercenary named Marik wanted a list from a guy named Bradley. Bradley was none to keen on sharing this list, so I had to steal it from his table. I tried to sneak into his house at night, but everyone outside kept calling me out on my clumsy attempts at stealth. Eventually, I found a terrific opening and snuck into Bradley's house, but the dude woke up--regardless of the fact I was in stealth mode--and got miffed.

So did what any angry player would do. I went into his house in broad daylight and snatched the list from his breakfast table while he was sitting there. HE DID NOTHING.

I took it to Marik, who told me to give it back to Bradley. No problem, he saw me take it. I handed it back and Bradley was steaming pissed, as if he didn't see me snatch it right out from flippin' in front of him.

The rebels wanted me to kill some cows that the orcs were using for meat and milk. I killed one, but a nearby farmhand attacked me. I reloaded and waited until he turned his back, then slipped into stealth mode and slaughtered the cow. The farmhand applauded my victory.

You've played it pre-patched. I played that game pre-launch and some of the bugs. My words, some of the bugs...

For example! The game's most deadly enemy? Boars. Seriously. They stun-locked you to death so, even when you were at a point where they were pure canon fodder, their attacks were perfectly timed so you could not responded while they almost literally nibbled you slowly to death. It might have been as angry as I've ever got with a game.

Still enjoyed it, though.
