Well, finances are officially in the crapper. Bills are getting paid and the only debts we have are quite small (credit card bill for me, and less than $200 from my wife's hospital visit). Thankfully my insurance covers maternity stays 100%, so we don't have to worry about that. Still, it's apparent now more than ever that I need a second job.
As such, my reviewing time will decrease, maybe even disappear. I really hope not, because I'd like to continue both as an HG contributor and as a freelancer. I'm hoping for something that pays decently.
At the same time, I'm weighing career options for the future. I am still thinking about going to school despite the financial woes and the baby on the way. I've nixed X-ray technology as a possibility, since my wife doesn't want to leave Spokane. The only other possibility is the one I originally didn't want to do, but I'm leaning more and more towards as I continue to work at the hospital: nursing. It's still just an idea I'm toying with, but it might be my best bet. Nursing takes very little schooling compared to other programs and pays very well, and I really do want to do something in healthcare; I feel very strongly for the industry.
We'll see how things pan out. In spite of everything, I'd like to keep my hobbies--especially writing--even if only in a minimal form.

honestgamer - November 07, 2011 (08:29 PM) Just saw this post now. I wish you the best and I join the others in hoping that we continue to see you around the site, contributing and commenting as possible. You're someone who does have a shot at freelancing, I think, but that does take a lot of time investment and it can be difficult to get that particular ball rolling on top of a day job (let alone two). I hope HonestGamers can help you with that, as it has some other game critics. |

JoeTheDestroyer - November 14, 2011 (02:47 PM) Thanks, everyone. I'm still looking for that second job, and I have a feeling it will be a while before I obtain it. Until then, I'm going to enjoy what little gaming I can get in and try to finish up Demon's Souls and Saints Row: The Third while I can. |
