NaNoWriMo
November 05, 2010

Anyone participating in it this year, or have you participated before? I had originally planned to, but I already had a novel started that I don't want to abandon. I'm hoping to get this one published, possibly with a local publishing company, though Spokane doesn't seem to be interested in anything spooky or weird, which this one definitely is.

Most recent blog posts from Joseph Shaffer...

I've always wanted to do NaNo, but I've never really had time for it. I also don't really have any ideas for a novel aside from the one I started in high school and virtually stopped all work on thereafter. Maybe one day in the future I can try this, but for now... I'm probably just going to have to sit on the sidelines and marvel at how people find the time to do it themselves.

No spooky for Spokane? Alliteration fanboys everywhere must feel that much sadder.

I can't honestly participate in NaNoWriMo, though I might want to finish my lagging book--well, a first draft--by month's end. It doesn't count since it's been sitting around a while. But I think I just wrote more last November, just because, and I plan to this November, too.

It sounds very cool, but November is my busiest month in school. It would work much nicer as a summer competition.

I've wanted to do this every year for some time now, but really there couldn't possibly be a worse month for it than November, the busiest time of the year for game critics like me. So, uh... I haven't done it. I have written novels in the span of a month, though, just for kicks. And there's the possibility that one of these years, NaNoWriMo will even happen. I do plan to get back into writing my sci-fi/fantasy novels more regularly sometime in the next few years. It was my passion before games journalism, and it remains a part of who I am.

No time this year. I had heaps of time last year, but no motivation. Only wrote about a page.

Am I the only person who has no idea what that is?

Haha. National Novel Writing Month

I really don't know why they don't hold this in July.

Just noticed your game of the day is Illusion of Gaia. That's awesome.

I did, too, at first, but then I thought about it and felt it didn't really make sense. My guess is they put it in Novemeber for more alliteration than anything else.

In any case, my clarification (or at least my interpretation of the acronym; I didn't look it up, just made an educated guess) was also directed toward espiga. In fact, probably more so. XD So don't feel too bad. =P

Nope. Seems most authors in this city are over 50 and only want to write about canoeing, local history, or old guys who solve mysteries. Although, there was the author of the Land of Feylon trilogy who was from around this area...

Zipp:
Indeed. That is the next game I'm reviewing. One of my favs. on the old SNES. :D

Wolfqueen:
Haha! Very good guess. You're spot on. The first time I heard of NaNoWriMo, I thought it was some juvenile contest based on the name. Then when I heard what it was about, I was excited to start it. That was over a year ago, just a few days after last year's NaNoWriMo started. I didn't enter then, I wanted to this year, but maybe I will next year. Then again, I'm planning on going back to school next year, so maybe not...

I did a review of it myself.

After reading your review, I think I may have to replay Illusion of Gaia completely. I really have to experience all that again.

Thank you, Joe. I really love that game. I picked it up in a clothing store, of all places.
