HGWars structure now essentially complete
March 19, 2009

I've just finished adding the final significant features to HGWars today. The final addition was the 'Pray' feature, which ironically is one of the first things I had in mind when I decided to even tackle the project!

Basically, players can 'pray' in-game to raise 1 or 2 levels (their choice), so long as they have the necessary HG Points. The number of HG Points required increases based on the number of experience points required to level up. Characters of the cleric class will also receive a discount.

Before I go to sleep, I'll probably add one final tweak to the game--just a navigational thing, not an actual feature--then finally get some shuteye. Any changes that I make going forward will almost certainly be limited to bug fixes and balance tweaks. You could say, then, that the game is officially in its beta mode.

Unless something changes, I will be wiping the character and battle profiles on the evening of March 31 (relatively close to midnight, PST) so that everyone can start fresh on even footing. I'm hoping to be able to offer a cool prize or two... or three... to get people excited about playing competitively and I plan to kick off a wider promotion for the game at that time.

Until then, this is a good chance to continue playing, developing your strategies that will allow you to dominate during the weeks ahead. If you have friends that you'd like to see involved in April's contest, by all means let them know about the game right now so that they can get comfortable with how things work. I do need people to continue playing so that I can add gear and make sure that it's working properly and not unexpectedly breaking the gameplay by overpowering any class on a consistent basis.

Thanks for your ongoing support as we enter the home stretch, and hopefully we can all make HGWars a success going forward!

I'll join in after the wipe. I'll also post it on other boards.

Wipe = LAME.

You're just a sore loser.

Wipe = new chances to play with different character classes and try new strategies as well as see how the new features work on earlier levels. Though if it occurs too often, it might get boring since we'd never get to experiment with the higher levels, either. And it gets to be a chore to build everything up again after a while, but... that's just a matter of balancing things. It's all about balance.

Anyway, I hope you don't base the tournament winner on battle victories or something (when this comes), because EmP attacked me like four times this afternoon, lost three times and none of those losses were added to his battle loss count. It was at 10 when he attacked; it remained at 10 afterwards. Now he's at 12, but I assume that has to do with activity after I left (he didn't attack me again after that).

Battles will be determined by gold in the vault and on a person's... person. It'll be leaderboards that will be visible on the site at all times, just like it is right now. Things will fluctuate because people will have to spend money to earn money, so it should be an interesting measure of success.

I'm pretty sure that the battle system only counts fatalities as a win (or loss).

No it doesn't. EmP just attacked me three times without killing me (or I him) a few hours ago, and it counted the one victory and two losses onto my account (and probably his, too, except for the loss that is).

Using the leader boards is a good way to determine the winner of a tournament, though. Should make things interesting.

EDIT: Hm... I just attacked EmP out of revenge and lost once (I misssed, bastard), and it didn't count that against me, either. Though when I killed him next round, it counted against him.

It appears there are no jobs for a level 1 bard, so I don't think I can level. Help!

EDIT: the only way I could level was to spend some HG points, which I did so that I could attack you again. (healing was taking too long) BWAHAHA

I lost all my gold (10000+) for no apparent reason... I went to the vault, then went to the mercs page, then after that noticed it was all gone.

I wasn't in a fight, so that's not what happened.

:(

Thanks for pointing that out, Zig. It has been fixed!
