Kabuki Warriors (Xbox)

Kabuki Warriors review (XBX)

Reviewed on June 20, 2002

The mere mention of Genki/Lightweight's samurai arcade brawlin' fighter Kabuki Warriors leads many gamers to sort of slink away and hardly murmur anything about it beyond that they heard from a guy who heard from a guy who heard from somebody that actually subscribes to IGNsider read that it sucks. Its the one game, Xbox or PS2 or GCN, that has managed to create this weird eerie mystery wrapped in an enigma around it. Its like when you ask your dad about your great uncle who fought in the batt...
Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast)

Skies of Arcadia review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

The term ''greatest game ever'' or ''greatest RPG ever made'' is used about everytime a RPG- be it Square or somebody else- is released. Skies of Arcadia is the latest epic to- hopefully- get this moniker.
Spawn: In the Demon's Hand (Dreamcast)

Spawn: In the Demon's Hand review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

If nothing else, the latest electronic incarnation of Spawn can at least know it's the best looking god-awful game of the year. Maybe I'm being too harsh. But while Todd McFarlene continues to change from indie comic artist to obscenely rich uber-sell out, gamers are screwed. The straight-from-hell hero is cursed on gaming platforms, and Capcom's latest effort (a port of an Naomi game) could've ended up being enjoyable if Capcom only tweaked a few things.
Time Stalkers (Dreamcast)

Time Stalkers review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

Time Stalkers is a phenomenal game with a rich story, interesting characters you feel compassion for and a thunderous score that coincides with the beautiful proceedings. Developer Climax Graphics certainly has Square ducking for cover.
Zone of the Enders (PlayStation 2)

Zone of the Enders review (PS2)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

Its the game everybody had to buy to play Metal Gear Solid 2 in its minute demo form. Hideo Kojima's big robot basher is pretty and very well structered. Its also horribly short- I completed it in 5 and a half hours over a period of one Saturday night and a all day today- and sports a disapointingly abrupt ending.
Orphen: Scion of Sorcery (PlayStation 2)

Orphen: Scion of Sorcery review (PS2)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

Orphen, the latest localization by the good folks at Activision, is, in a word, schizophrenic. While Orphen doesn't have government enforment officers speaking Chinese and following it around in black helicopters like my ex co-worker Warren (no male prostitution ring either), the game does think it's a Tomb Raider platformer. It's also a Crash Banidcoot style 3-D platformer with a fixed postion and a full blown Square-like epic with blur effects and turn-based battles that aren't really turn bas...
Hybrid Heaven (Nintendo 64)

Hybrid Heaven review (N64)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

RPGs are few and far between on the N64. In fact, the only ''traditional,'' turn-based RPG is the festering boil that is Quest 64. Enter the unorthodox Hybrid Heaven, a solid, sci-fi RPG with a Matrix meets Metal Gear Solid visual look.
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber (Nintendo 64)

Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber review (N64)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

After endless delays, Atlus has finally brought us Enix's vast RPG epic. Does it end the RPG drought on the N64? Not exactly, but it's still a strong effort that fans will thoroughly enjoy.
WinBack: Covert Operations (Nintendo 64)

WinBack: Covert Operations review (N64)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

Released a year ago, WinBack was, and still is, the Nintendo 64's only answer to Metal Gear Solid. Well, the blond Jean-Luc is no Solid Snake, and WinBack is no Metal Gear Solid, but it is a much needed action game on the kiddy N64.
Gundam Battle Assault (PlayStation)

Gundam Battle Assault review (PSX)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

Anime games here are few and far between. And that might be a good thing. Anime games are the Japanese equivelent of a movie or TV license. Meaning, for every Goldeneye there is at least 300 Olsen Twins, Xena or Blues Brothers. Anime games have improved- Record of Lodoss War, Card Captors, and Oh My Goddess for Dreamcast are rather competent, and Bandai's crank-a-dozen Gundam titles for Playstation are passable.
Cannon Spike (Dreamcast)

Cannon Spike review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

Flashy and fun, Cannon Spike from Capcom is hardcore 16-bit action down to the bone. The wild game mocks other games and features other Capcom stars like Cammy Lee, Charlie, Arthur, Simone (I don't know where she's from), the disturbing little girl from DarkStalkers B.B. Hood, Shiba, and the legendary Mega Man. Its a relatively cheap ($30) follow-up to more cerebral DC efforts like Shenmue and Skies of Arcadia.
EGG: Elemental Gimmick Gear (Dreamcast)

EGG: Elemental Gimmick Gear review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

No game in the history of gaming (except perhaps E.T. for the 2600), has made me want to put a hammer to one of my systems more than EGG: Elemental Gimmick Gear, a horrible action-RPG for the Dreamcast from the usually reliable Hudson Soft.
Evolution 2: Far Off Promise (Dreamcast)

Evolution 2: Far Off Promise review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

Wow. A mere 6 months after we get the first RPG for Dreamcast, we get a sequel. Actually, Evolution 2: A Far Off Promise is more of a remix than a full-blooded sequel, in my opinion.
Grandia II (Dreamcast)

Grandia II review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

The second RPG to hit the Dreamcast is its most anticipated. Sporting impressive visuals and an epic scope, Grandia 2 proves to be, unfortunately, a rather underwhelming experience. In spite of that, Grandia 2 is still a must have for the DC owner.
Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes (Dreamcast)

Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

Based off of one of 8 Gundam series, Bandai's giant robot stomper comes stateside possibly due in part to the success of Gundam Wing popping up on Cartoon Network's Toonami. Fans of that show who pick up the game for $44.99 (its going price at Best Buy and other places) may be dissapointed to find that Heero Yui or the God of Death aren't in this one.
NFL 2K1 (Dreamcast)

NFL 2K1 review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

I've played many a football game in my day, but none of them have ever matched Super Tecmo Bowl for the NES, not even last year's stellar NFL 2K. Now, the folks at Visual Concepts have just made that old Tecmo dev team weep bitterly- NFL 2K1 is the best football game ever made. EVER. The game is fine tuned to perfection, with only a few (understandable) faults.
Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast)

Phantasy Star Online review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

Striking with all the ferocity of a bolt of lightening from the right palm of God, Phantasy Star Online begs the question: ''What the hell happened to Sega?''
Seventh Cross Evolution (Dreamcast)

Seventh Cross Evolution review (DC)

Reviewed on Date Unknown

When I was a film major last year, in a class that was to serve as an introduction to film narrative, I learned of a guy named Bertol Brecht. He was a German playwright who thought that if you wanted to pass a message on to the audience (usually involving Marxist theory) you must detach the audience from the play. You cannot let your audience get caught up in a story or to show sympathy with characters because they will not understand your message and be too caught up in your story, or so the th...
