If you've ever wanted to pitch your tent in the middle of a spooky grove on a deserted island, you will get your chance this April when Cozy Grove comes to Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. That's a lot of systems and a lot of bears.

Developed by Spry Fox, the studio responsible for a number of fuzzy and surprisingly addictive games over the years (Road Not Taken, Triple Town and Alphabear come to mind, though there have been others), Cozy Grove tasks you with helping the spectral inhabitants of a haunted island make the most of the afterlife.

You build a camp, make friends with various characters, and even do a little decorating work to make the whole environment less dreary. Each day, you can explore the foreboding forest and find new loot, or even new areas ripe for exploration. Complete tasks for the residents and explore a "living world" that you will make your own.

"Cozy Grove is ultimately intended to become a game that you comfortably settle into," said David Edery, Spry Fox CEO. "It doesn't make you feel like you need to play for 8 hours in a single setting to 'maximize' your experience, and it doesn't make you feel like you've seen everything there is to see in a few days either. We want Cozy Grove to become a delightful ritual that you look forward to every day, and for it to remain that way for many weeks, months and possibly even years. When everything else in your life might be chaotic, Cozy Grove will hopefully be a place you can predictably and regularly find a bit of joy."

To be honest, it sounds like what the team was going for is a different take on Animal Crossing: New Life, which for many gamers checked those boxes during the pandemic. But for players who have done everything they could on the islands they built with Nintendo, a new destination is bound to hold a certain appeal.

Here is a list of key features:

  • Beautiful, dynamic, hand-drawn landscapes that come alive when you help a spirit in need.

  • Dozens of memorable characters and spirits for you to find and befriend.

  • Collectable spirit animals, craftable decorations, fishing, and more!

  • 40+ hour campaign filled with side quests, designed to span months of playtime.
  • Cozy Grove is due to arrive on the various platforms mentioned at the start of this article on April 8, 2021, which means you're less than two weeks from your chance to start traipsing through haunted forests. It is presently available for preorder on the eShop and elsewhere, with a MSRP of $14.99 USD and some preorder discounts currently in place.
