Root Film is now available in North America and Europe, PQube and Kadokawa Games announced today. The PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch title was released in Japan last year, and serves as the follow-up to Root Letter, which also is available on those platforms and on Vita.

According to the press release, Root Film "transports players to a beautifully detailed like-for-like recreation of some beloved locations in historic Shimane prefecture," an important location if Japanese mythology is your thing. In the game, you have come there to explore the set of a once cancelled TV show that appears somehow to be related to a series of inexplicable murders.

Players assume the role of 23-year-old Rintaro Yagumo, who is scouting a location when a horrific murder interrupts everything and throws his life in a new direction. Players also become Riho, an actress with charm and confidence despite her general lack of experience. As the two investigators, you must gather clues, interrogate suspects and get to the bottom of the mystery while switching between the two leads.

The game features direction by Hifumi Kono, with voice acting from Japanese idols i*Ris. It is available digitally (and with a 20% discount during launch week), as you might expect, and also in physical "limited edition" form through a variety of merchants. Proceed as your heart demands.
