Tripwire Interactive today announced that Maneater finally has a release date. The sharky action-RPG will arrive on Nintendo Switch on May 25, 2021 so you can take the careless swimmer buffet with you on the go.

Already available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC, Maneater drops players in Port Clovis and tasks them with eating, exploring and evolving. They are a shark, the apex predator of the seas, and they have an insatiable appetite for things that bleed.

In Maneater, you will find a variety of enemies, human and otherwise. If you play your cards right, which is difficult without fingers but not impossible, you will grow into a powerful entity much worse than anything nature ever intended, perhaps even becoming something Spielberg might have been tempted to put to film in the early days of his distinguished career. Maybe someday, you can even finally have your revenge on the fisherman who once dismembered you.

Here's a list of key features noted in today's press release:

  • Eat: Feed on humans, consume nutrients, and find rare shark loot to evolve past what nature intended.

  • Explore the Gulf: Explore seven large regions, including bayous of the gulf coast, resort beaches, industrial docks, the open ocean and more. Experience a living world with a full day/night cycle.

  • Evolve Into a Legend: Unlock and equip various Evolutions that improve and enhance your shark as you progress through the campaign.

  • Unique Story: Play through a full narrative, story-based campaign narrated by Chris Parnell (Rick and Morty, Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock) and set against the backdrop of a reality TV show.

  • Diverse, Compelling Combat: Battle fierce wildlife including other apex predators or fight against various types of human hunters ranging from town drunks all the way up to the Coast Guard.

  • Includes the Tiger Shark Evolution: The Tiger Shark is often called the 'garbage disposal of the sea.' Appropriately enough, this evolution allows you to digest nearly anything, increasing your ability to gain vital nutrients from all varieties of prey.
If all of the above sounds just lovely, and it's hard to imagine why it might not, know that Maneater will be priced at $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99 and is inexplicably rated M for Mature by the ESRB. Maybe someone thinks the sight of sharks snacking on surfers isn't appropriate for younger audiences. Go figure.
