Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse released on Xbox way back in 2005, and we hadn't really heard from it since because its developer got acquired by Disney Interactive and eventually folded when Disney, fresh off the excitement of buying up several talented developers, decided that actually it wasn't especially interested in releasing video games. These things happen.

However, it's sad these things had to happen to some of the developers involved, including the fine folks at Wideload Games. They didn't always produce work that lived up to their potential, but as we made clear in our Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse review, sometimes they did. The game rocked.

Today, you can play Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse on modern hardware, as the game is now available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC from Aspyr. It's backwards compatible, so you can also play it if you're stuck with just a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X, you poor, poor soul.

Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse takes place in the 1950s city of Punchbowl, PA, which resembles the sort of perfect society you might have seen in spoof ads from the 1950s. There is a problem, though, in the form of a certain zombie infestation. Here's a proper list of game features to expect, courtesy of a press release:

  • Eat Brains: Chomp on the living and replenish your bodily arsenal of zombie sputum, gut grenades, and the stunning unholy flatulence.

  • Build Your Zombie Horde: Convert your enemies into undead allies and lead a zombie assault on the living.

  • Possess Punchbowl's Population: Clamp your severed hand to a barbershop quartet singer’s head and raygun away.

  • Bring Civilization to its Knees: Show the retro-futuristic city of Punchbowl, PA that they can't escape the past.

  • Stubbs and Chill: Invite a friend to play as Grubbs for classic couch cooperative hijinks. (Friend not included)
You can pick up Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse for the mere price of only $19.99. Don't make the mistake of sleeping on this one a second time around. It might come for your cranium and scarf down your brain if you ignore it!
