Playmestudio's 2020 tech-noir thriller, The Signifier, is due to arrive on consoles and PC in 2021, this time with improvements that should make for an enhanced experience. Publisher Raw Fury made the announcement today and indicated the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
Previously released in October of 2020, The Signifier in its "Director's Cut" form includes expanded narrative content, for starters. That works out to new memories, dialogue and voiceover, three additional endings and an epilogue that connects to key characters and choices.
On next-gen platforms, the release offers "an average of 60 FPS at 4K and 100+ FPS at 1080p," but the improvements don't stop there. Those versions also feature faster loading times and high-resolution textures. Also be on the lookout for revamped animations and UI, as well as optimizations to ensure the game runs better even on PCs that aren't super impressive.
If you've already played through the game and all of the above isn't enough reason to try it out again, know that at least you won't have to pay anything for the privilege. If you purchased it on Steam, GOG or the Humble Store, you'll receive a free upgrade, which is the perfect excuse to check out the new stuff and even enjoy some remappable controls.
So, just what should folks expect if they've not yet played The Signifier? Well, it's a first-person adventure blending investigation, psychology and artificial intelligence. Or so says the press release.
"When the vice president of the world's largest tech company turns up dead in her home, it's up to you to explore her memories and emotions with a revolutionary brain scanner to uncover what happened," reads an intriguing synopsis. "Move freely between three dimensions -- reality, objective memories and subjective feelings -- searching for clues in mind-bending environments, discovering important revelations, solving puzzles, and putting the pieces together in pursuit of the truth."
