GENSO Skydrift brings Touhou racers to PS4 next week
You'll also be able to play it on PlayStation 5 thanks to backwards compatibility, if that's your thing.
GENSOU Skydrift is on its way to PlayStation 4 on March 9, courtesy of publisher Phoenixx. The racer previously released on Nintendo Switch in 2019, but it will come to Sony's platform with new courses as a reward for your patience.
Developed by Studio illuCaleb, which apparently is led by a former Mario Kart developer, the game features anime heroes drawn from the popular Touhou Project shared world. There are 22 racers in all.
Regarding the two new stages, one is apparently a "gorgeous" Heaven stage, while the other is the "midnight-drenched cityscape of Redevelopment Area B." So yeah, this is an arcade racer, rather than a sim. You'll be able to attack with magical spells and everything.
Although the Touhou Project games come from a variety of developers and feature wildly differing levels of quality, sometimes they surprise players with experiences worth having. The Switch version seems to have come and gone without making much of an impression one way or the other, but you never know: maybe it's just the sort of experience Mario-deprived PlayStation owners have been waiting for. And hey, two extra tracks are two extra tracks...
