You'll be able to skate to the extreme on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, dawg!

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 arrived on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms last year, which was cool, but the release didn't include a Nintendo Switch version and that wasn't quite as cool. It also wasn't released for the shiny new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles, and that too was decidedly non-awesome. But things change.

Yesterday, Tony Hawk tweeted to the Crash Bandicoot Twitter account, asking for help bringing his own recent release to following platforms, since the spinning bandicoot managed to secure a Switch and next-gen release for Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. That game is due on the additional platforms on March 12, and the Birdman wanted in on the fun.

"Just heard #Crash4 is coming to new platforms and I’m kinda jealous," he tweeted. "Hey @CrashBandicoot can you hook @TonyHawkTheGame up?"

The sudden tweet drew interest from both the official Crash Bandicoot and Nintendo of America accounts, along with the many franchise fans who have been hoping to see the game roll onto additional platforms. Today, Activision issued a press release announcing the game's impending availability on key hardware: the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

According to that release, the game arrives on the next-gen consoles on March 26, with the Switch version also coming at some point in calendar 2021. You'll be able to upgrade your digital deluxe edition for free on either PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, provided you live outside Japan, or your standard digital edition for $10. If you're like me and bought a physical disc instead, well, sucks to be you!

The upcoming versions of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 are now available for preorder in "select territories," and there are some reasons you might want to jump in even if you haven't played the games in eons. For one thing, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 editions feature 120FPS gameplay at 1080P, or 60FPS gameplay at 4K resolution. The Switch version, meanwhile... is portable. But you already knew that.

Unlike some past attempts to bring Tony Hawk's skating excellence to a new generation of gamers, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 seems to be a proper remake from the talented crew at Vicarious Visions. That studio is being dissolved and will soon spend its days toiling on Blizzard projects, but at least it produced an excellent remaster of two classic games before everything went south. Are you looking forward to skating through the studio's swan song on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch?
