A free Mega Man 11 demo is now available on the Nintendo eShop, Capcom announced today in a quick press release. The demo will also be available tomorrow, September 7, on the PlayStation Store and on the Xbox marketplace.

Mega Man 11 is the next installment in the long-running franchise, and the first proper update since Mega Man 10 in 2010. But that older title was developed by Inti Creates and employed a retro art style, while Mega Man 11 is apparently developed by an internal team at Capcom and features attractive visuals that look to kick the ball forward from where Mega Man 8 left it sitting in 1996.

The new demo lets players choose a difficulty level and then jump into action in the Block Man stage. Rush, the hero's familiar robotic canine companion, is also on hand for the grand event.

Capcom also announced a special promotion it is running, to encourage people to play through the demo and spread the word.

"Fans who take on Block Man in the free Mega Man 11 demo will contribute to the "Bust Block Man" community challenge for a chance to receive a set of single-use items that can be redeemed in the retail version of the game," notes the press release. "Fans who defeat Block Man can display their victory using the #BustBlockMan hashtag on social media and then stay tuned to official Mega Man social channels to check out the progress as the community works together to chip away at Block Man!"

While most of the robots that will be featured in the game remain a mystery at this point, Capcom did announce another one: the nefarious Bounce Man. He terrorizes Boing-Boing Park, which is described as "vibrant." That's the stage pictured in the above screenshot. Boing!

The press release also described a new ability called the Double Gear, which allows Mega Man to slow the flow of time and power up weapons such as the Mega Buster charged shot, which was not utilized in Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10, I don't believe. Alas, the Robot Masters also have the new ability, so fights promise to be quite fearsome.

Mega Man 11 arrives in North America on October 2, 2018, and will be available digitally, physically, and as part of a limited physical release on Nintendo Switch that comes with a special amiibo (plus more collectible loot besides).
