Slice, Dice & Rice brings its recipe for violence to Nintendo Switch

The title isn't talking about tomatoes, folks. It's talking about human bodies and limbs.

Fighting games tend to fit a particular approach, and that's an approach the latest release from Arc System Works looks to turn on its head. Slice, Dice & Rice, a brutal brawler from Dojo Games, doesn't have time for conventions.

Slice, Dice & Rice pits two players in a battle to the death. They're armed with blades of the sort that can lop off a head or an arm, and only one of two combatants will leave the arena alive.

The idea is that every time you make contact with your foe, you could impair movement or even strike a fatal blow. You might hit the other guy five times, ten times, or just once.

"When the next attack might be the one that does you in," says the press release, "the tension never stops!"

I feel like Bushido Blade tried something similar, but that was a long time ago and my memory is hazy. In any event, the Polish development studio is trying something that hasn't been done to death. It would be refreshing, if it weren't very probably soaked in nasty blood.

Here's a list of features from today's press release:
  • EASY TO PLAY, HARD TO MASTER - An intuitive set of basic abilities removes the need for memorizing inputs and move-lists, while retaining strategic complexity.

  • STYLIZED GRAPHICS - Winning never looked so good! Slick, comic book like graphics make the action pop.

  • SIX UNIQUE STAGES - Battle across an alternative version of the Japanese underground.

  • EIGHT DISTINCT FIGHTERS - Choose one of 8 characters, all with their own stories and unique fighting styles.

  • PARRY & CLASH - Blocking is for the passive. Take the fight to the enemy!

  • ONLINE PLAY - Put your skills to the test online in Network Mode.
Slice, Dice & Rice is available now for Nintendo Switch, with an MSRP of $17.99 USD. It also released on PlayStation 4 and Steam earlier this year, if you would rather shop around a bit.
