Are you looking for roll playing of a different sort? This spiritual successor to Marble Blast Ultra may be the ticket.

This September, Bad Habit Productions will release what it calls a "next-generation roller." It also calls that product Marble It Up!, and has announced it will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

You may not have heard of Bad Habit Productions. I certainly hadn't. But the name brings together a variety of talented individuals from Shapes and Lines, The Engine Company, Alvios and Arcturus Interactive. Members of the team responsible for Marble It Up! have worked on the likes of Tribes II and Marble Blast Ultra, among others. Given that history and the fact their base of operations is apparently in Eugene, Oregon, I'm going to go ahead and guess this is what happened to GarageGames.

In Marble It Up!, players will work their way through 40 stages that incorporate various types of terrain. They'll encounter platforming puzzles along the way, as they bounce, jump, boost and roll through inhospitable environments of the sort you would find in Marble Blast Ultra or (looking further back to another of my favorites) Marble Madness.

"An intense love for the genre, for the subtle joy of rolling, led us to develop Marble It Up!," said Technical Director Ben Garney. "It's unique; it has a trancelike quality... you get into this flow and this focus that you don't necessarily get in a lot of games. Of all the products I've worked on, this is the one of which I'm most proud. It has the most compelling gameplay, the best looking art, and everyone on the team building it are people I really respect."

Though it wasn't without its faults, Marble Blast Ultra was a fun game when it launched with the Xbox 360 back in the day. It has since been removed from the store, but hopefully Marble It Up! will have more staying power (or fewer rights issues behind the scenes, one can only imagine). At the very least, it seems to be headed to the right platform to find an audience.

"We've made the game we were dying to play," said Fletcher Armstrong, Public Relations lead. "A simple, refined, lasting experience that challenges you and, at the end of the day, puts a smile on your face. We grew up on games like this, and, with a focus on community, Marble It Up! is a game that will grow with its players. We believe Nintendo Switch is a fantastic entryway into that collaborative enthusiasm."

You can find out more about the game at its official site, or get a visual knowledge dump by watching the announcement trailer embedded above.
