According to hopeful PR types, it's a little bit Stardew Valley, a little bit Hotline Miami.

Sindie-cate Arts, a small publisher best known for its work with a similarly small developer called Brainwash Gang, today announced that the two are pairing up for their newest project. That project is Damnview: Built From Nothing, a unique mix of action and simulation that is coming to a variety of platforms in 2019.

Currently confirmed for Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch, Damnview: Built From Nothing is "a simulation sandbox game about occidental culture and its different social classes." You'll occupy and thrive or perish in a world that's sort of like Stardew Valley, if Stardew Valley were dark and depressing.

"Damnview: Built From Nothing is a game about despair, the hostility of capitalism and the need of seeking for a better future," explains the press release. "The city you dwell in takes on its own role as the machine that capitalism feeds -- a machine that can swallow you whole and spit you out a broken person."

By now, you are surely saying something along the lines of "Wow, that sounds like just the sort of game I've been hoping to play for weeks now." And if you're saying that, you'll want to take a look at this list of features I lifted straight from the helpful press release:
  • A vast, detailed sandbox city to explore -- work your way up the class ladder as you forge relationships within the city.

  • Discover a world teeming with interesting characters from all walks of life: each character has its own story and purposes, and each will lead you down a different path.

  • Take on interesting jobs that present even more opportunities. Some good, some bad -- the choice is yours. Drive a cab, work in a video store or a laundry, smuggle all sorts of goods or sell drugs in the alleyways. In this life you must do whatever you need to survive.

  • Manage your income, build your home from nothing and try to maintain or improve your living situation and lifestyle -- but be wary, breaking out of society's recurrent loops and defeating the capitalistic machine might cost you everything you have.
On that cheery note, it is probably time to leave you to your imagination. But do spare a moment to check out the trailer embedded above, if you're keen to get a first look at what sounds like it could be one of the most existentially depressing games of the coming year.
