Are you prepared to die? Three times? If so, you might want to purchase Dark Souls Trilogy, which is coming from Bandai Namco and From Software later this year. It collects definitive editions of the three Dark Souls games, all in a collectible case that is sure to look gorgeous on your shelf.

Dark Souls Trilogy will be available on October 19, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It collects Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin and Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition and houses them in a Steelbook case.

The original Dark Souls arrived on PlayStation 3 in 2011, the spiritual successor to the similarly brutal Demon's Souls. Sony must have passed up the opportunity to make a sequel to that other game, and Bandai Namco inherited the seeds of a franchise that remains popular and influential to this day (how many times have you heard any new and difficult game compared to Dark Souls?).

"The Dark Souls Trilogy gives those who haven't played the Dark Souls series a great opportunity to jump in and experience what has become one of the most influential video game series of the past decade," said Jenn Tsang of Bandai Namco Entertainment America. "The magic of Dark Souls lies within its ability to challenge players with highly rewarding gameplay and deliver a euphoric sense of accomplishment after beating a particularly tough boss, or area in the game. We hope to share that feeling with new players through Dark Souls Trilogy."

The physical edition will be available "in limited numbers across the Americas," and Bandai Namco recommends that players interested in securing a copy place a pre-order with a participating retailer. Doing so will set you back a surprising $79.99 USD. Is your wallet prepared to die?

What's the point of this release? Hardcore fans probably own all three games already, and they're not going to ship enough copies to rope in newcomers. Seems like Bandai Namco's just trying to milk this cash cow dry.
